SBDC advises IT company on targeting new consumer market and developing marketing strategy
Entrepreneur Paul Nachian believed his knowledge and capabilities were competitive enough to begin his own IT service company. He has had years of experience working for global, high-tech companies and was driven to start his own business. In 2004, Nachian launched Computer Whiz On Call and has stayed in business ever since. Computer Whiz On Call specializes in data back-up, data recovery, virus removal, and hardware and software repair for individuals and businesses.
After years of continual business, Computer Whiz On Call experienced decreasing sales because the buying behavior of Nachian’s target customers changed. Due to an economic crash, consumers spent less money on computer services. However, Nachian remained determined to improve his business. He needed to find a way to gain more customers and increase the sales of his service during this economic lull.
There are several ways to market your business when consumers’ perceptions and buying behaviors change. The advisors from the SBDC hosted by Economic Development Collaborative-Ventura County helped identify the best strategy to increase sales for Computer Whiz On Call.
Since working with the SBDC, Nachian has increased his annual revenue by over 50%. He has more than 100 clients in Ventura County and has celebrated his 10th anniversary in business as a result of the SBDC’s advice of pursuing an additional consumer market. He also now averages four phone calls per week from the improvements on his website.
